Tjeert Kwant, the chief executive of
developer ECC International Real Estate, said Chiang Mai is an important
logistics hub linking nearby provinces and neighbouring countries.
"The retail market in
Chiang Mai is increasingly important in serving higher demand from locals and
tourists alike," he said. The 58-rai Promenada is located on New Chiang Mai-San Kamphaeng Road and only a 10-minute drive from the downtown area.
The 2.9-billion-baht shopping project has 91,951 square metres of gross space and net leasable space on three floors of 50,000 sq m.
Major tenants in the first phase include Uniqlo fashion store, SF Cinema, Kids@Play and Sports World.
The remaining areas will be opened in the second half of this year.
Chiang Mai is packed with retailers including Makro cash-and-carry store, Tesco-Lotus hypermarket, Big C Supercenter and CentralPlaza.
Central Pattana (CPN) has operated CentralPlaza for a few years. Its second mall in the city, CentralFestival Chiang Mai, whose construction is 50% complete, will open in November.
Kobchai Chirathivat, CPN's president and chief executive, said the new project will help the company to establish a strong foothold in the North.
Constructed with a budget of more than 6 billion baht, the 70-rai futuristic Lanna-style project is situated on a prime location on a superhighway near the Juvenile Court. The area is a rapidly growing residential area.
CentralFestival Chiang Mai will support the expanding economy and respond to the needs of locals as well as tourists from around the world.
The mall covers 250,000 sq m and major tenants include Central Food Hall, PowerBuy, SuperSports, B2S, OfficeMate and Major Cineplex. It will have more than 300 shops.
