Newspaper section: Business The retail market in the North is heating up after the launch yesterday of Promenada Resort Mall Chiang...

The main hall in Promenada Resort Mall Chiang Mai, which opened yesterday, was packed with local shoppers. The 58-rai shopping mall is located on New Chiang Mai-San Kamphaeng Road.
The first phase of Promenada offers modern lifestyle stores covering fashion, food and entertainment.
Tjeert Kwant, the chief executive of developer ECC International Real Estate, said Chiang Mai is an important logistics hub linking nearby provinces and neighbouring countries.
"The retail market in Chiang Mai is increasingly important in serving higher demand from locals and tourists alike," he said.

The 58-rai Promenada is located on New Chiang Mai-San Kamphaeng Road and only a 10-minute drive from the downtown area.

The 2.9-billion-baht shopping project has 91,951 square metres of gross space and net leasable space on three floors of 50,000 sq m.

Major tenants in the first phase include Uniqlo fashion store, SF Cinema, Kids@Play and Sports World.

The remaining areas will be opened in the second half of this year.

Chiang Mai is packed with retailers including Makro cash-and-carry store, Tesco-Lotus hypermarket, Big C Supercenter and CentralPlaza.

Central Pattana (CPN) has operated CentralPlaza for a few years. Its second mall in the city, CentralFestival Chiang Mai, whose construction is 50% complete, will open in November.
Kobchai Chirathivat, CPN's president and chief executive, said the new project will help the company to establish a strong foothold in the North.

Constructed with a budget of more than 6 billion baht, the 70-rai futuristic Lanna-style project is situated on a prime location on a superhighway near the Juvenile Court. The area is a rapidly growing  residential area.

CentralFestival Chiang Mai will support the expanding economy and respond to the needs of locals as well as tourists from around the world.

The mall covers 250,000 sq m and major tenants include Central Food Hall, PowerBuy, SuperSports, B2S, OfficeMate and Major Cineplex. It will have more than 300 shops.

Children Mining Diamonds in Liberia

From VOA learning English. Many children in Liberia are leaving school to work in diamond mine. Half of students dropped out this year to work in there. Although, working in the diamond mine is difficult and dangerous, they also work in there since they can earn much money. It’s well known that children under 18 years old cannot work but they do. It seems that they are illegal. It isn’t good for children to leave the school and work in the diamond mine. The important for them to do now is study because knowledge can help them to have a good work.

When a Textbook Is Online, Not on Paper

In the present time, online textbook are changing the way to publish. In Fairfax Country some students use it to learn by themselves. Many teachers said that today students work on laptop because electronic textbooks can quickly update the content. Online books also change right along with the events that are happening or changing. Other teachers said that the e-book is better than printed textbooks. Students can individualize their learning. About 10% of students in Fairfax Country don’t have a computer at home.

Online textbooks are a good way for students to learn but it is bad for students who don’t have computer at home. I think that teaching through printed textbooks is also good for every student in the class. Online textbooks are opportunity for students who want to learn more.
